Unfortunately in 2010 the British fashion industry saw the loss of one of its finest designers Alexander McQueen, who shocked the world with the news of his suicide back in February 2010. The design house of McQueen however still lives on thorough the eyes of their new creative director Sarah Burton.
Sarah Burton was the right hand design aide to the late McQueen for over 16 years and therefore was the perfect candidate for the role because having worked so closely with McQueen she developed a deep understanding of his brand values and design concepts, thus staying true to the company’s values and legacy.
Burton’s spring/summer 2011 debut collection for Alexander McQueen has an array of beautifully printed garments and intricate handcraftsmanship. The collection is full of soft silhouettes and exaggerated shapes to idolize the female form. No McQueen collection however is complete without slit shoulders, patchwork embroidery, tooled leather, twisted feathers, hand painted butterflies, gold bullion, and frayed raffia to name just a few. Burton definitely delivers in this spring/summer collection with soft delicate silks, cotton voiles, chiffons, and cotton organdie.
Sarah Burton has successfully completed the task of filling very big shoes left by the late Alexander McQueen. Well done to the very talented Burton, House of Maffia is looking forward to the next collection.
