Lisa Maffia & IDOL Magazine Editor Rebecca Moore were spotted at Nobu last night. Nobu Unplugged is a platform introducing emerging recording artists. Nina Nesbitt and special guests including Sam Garrett stood out for both ladies as amazing!

Beauty Holics – Officially addicted to BeautyHolics

House of Maffia’s Editor recently had the pleasure of hosting a BeautyHolics pamper party with guests Lisa Maffia & Su-Elise Nash.

The BeautyHolics ladies, Zarina, Nichole and Shereen arrived promptly and began setting up. Within minutes my “petite” apartment was transformed into an intimate at home spa taking over the bedroom and livingroom.

I was first up for a massage which was delivered on a professional bed set up in the bedroom. With some “Zen (esque)” music softly playing in the background and some scented oils I quickly began to relax into a state of bliss. Targeting my troubled areas of the neck and upper back the therapist had me drifting off, with the massage feeling like it lasted much longer the the 30mins.

Once I had come back around and composed myself, next on the treatment menu was a pedicure. Swapping places with Lisa and joining Su-Elise I was in no time soaking my sandal/flipflop damaged heels in a foot soak and having all the summer build up promptly shifted.

This was accompanied with lots of girly chat and followed by a foot and lower leg massage to get the blood flowing through correctly. Moisturised, shaped, primped and preened I selected a “Oui but if Red” by Opi to complete the treatment.


A delightful set of beauty therapists, who made a grey and wet afternoon in London a wonderful experience…a definate recommendation.

Oh! And I forgot to say we all got a complimentary gift bag as part of the pamper party package.

We went for a Luxury Pedicure at £33.00 and a Back Massage at £28.00 but treatments range from around £10 for a flie & polish  to £160 for a Day of Pamper package.

House of Maffia were invited down by Cici PR & Events to the Blue Bella press day at the decadent surroundings of Home House for a private party. Greeted at the members house we were taken to the intimate bar for a complimentary glass of house wine, which set the tone of the intimate event.

Introduced to Blue Bella’s CEO and Founder Emily Bendell we were taken around the room and given a sneek preview of next season’s collections.

Karen Tino – Radical Designer Award

On Saturday 26 March Fashion Designers’ & Craft Makers’ Network held their innovative 2011 Young Designer Show at The Novotel London Hotel St. Pancras. This exciting event was established by knitwear designer Joanna Marcella with the aim to help raise profile of exceptionally gifted young avant-garde designers. Families, friends, fashion lovers and the press alike gathered together at The Novotel Hotel St Pancras for what was an impressive and exciting evening.

The show hosted the Young Designer Award and the Radical Designer Award and included Jacqueline Hancher, Caroline Gladstone and Sue Mee Maudsley as part of the panel of special guest judges.

The organizers of the Young Designer Show and Awards are delighted to announce that first place went to Ezoe Robinson who produced a delicate chiffon design inspired by the musical The Lion King. Second place went to Hannah Bloxham who created a striking final piece which was made with high technical skill and looked fantastic on the catwalk and third place was awarded to Thamina Lipa Chowdhury all young designers gave excellent presentations to the panel of judges and demonstrated great commitment to the project.

First place Radical Designer Award for designers over 21 years went to our very own Karen Jonga of KAREN TINO she created a remarkable collection that captured the judge’s’ attention.

Joanna Marcella says: ‘We’ve found a great bunch of new, fresh and exciting young designers and we seek to encourage them as much as we can through our Designer Development Initiative. The Designer Development Initiative is an attempt to support aspiring multi-cultural fashion designers and aims to make a significant difference to their economic well-being by offering support, mentoring and motivational sessions, and by producing events that provide the opportunity for participants to network and promote themselves.’

Karen will start preparing her presentation to put before the panel of directors at Seattle Fashion Week.

River Island – Chelsea Girl

Chelsea Girl returns to River Island

Chelsea Girl was the brand that rose to fame during the Sixties, Seventies and Eighties before re-launching as River Island in 1988.


River Island are re-introducing Chelsea Girl with a new capsule collection drawing from the fashion heritage of the Chelsea Girl brand.






The capsule collection is inspired by vintage pieces featured in the original Chelsea Girl campaigns. Featuring floral prints, geometric shapes and denim pieces the influence across the three decades is apparent.

The price points are super affordable with a cropped t-shit going for £15, denim shorts for £25 and floral jeans for £35.



It launches with an exclusive pop-up store at Selfridges on the 24th March with the collection available at selected stores as well.

House of Maffia & House of Murray | London Fashion Week Escapades

House of Maffia’s Selina and Lina joined forces with Julie-Ann Murray of House of Murray this London Fashion Week season. Lina started the afternoon by attending the Falguni & Shane Peacock show at ON|OFF. Selina joined the crew over at the Jasper Garvida show at Vauxhall Fashion Scout where we had the privilege of jumping the queue and sitting on the second row. We rounded off the evening by traveling east to the Christopher Beales presentation and partied the night away in VIP at the Falguni & Shane Peacock after-party …

A darkly elegant collection from the Rock n Roll duo

Striking feather and shear evening gowns juxtaposed with dominatrix leather and embellished studding created an edgy yet elegant story of high lux couture along with their signature prints for their cool AW11 show.

It was lovely to catch up with the team at the after show party too!!!

Effortless draping and peep hole ‘key’ prints gave us an insight into Jaspers more relaxed mood this season with a collection of refreshingly calm, oriental inspired minimalism. Armour-like embellished gowns and accessories gave an edge to the unusually light story which was much less extravagant than previous seasons.

WHEN THE CRYSTAL CRACKED

Having worked behind the scenes in the fashion industry for the last 15 years, helping the likes of Lee McQueen and Matthew Williamson to create their catwalk collections, the talented and highly skilled Christopher Beales is finally emerging from the cracks and has presented a magnificent array of styles for his latest exhibition ‘When the Crystal Cracked’ presented by the team at Forward PR.

To anyone who knows him, Christopher is a delightful, talented designer and costumier who’s combined passion, skill and love of his art will no doubt propel him to the very top of his art!

We have only just begun to see what this magical young man can create!

Big thanks to Dan Kapp @ Movida for organising the night with me and making it all happen. House of Maffia presents…VERGI

House of Maffia find out a little more about VERGI one of the newest upcoming designers to join the fashion house.

Who is VERGI?

VERGI is design duo Alesia Rolik & Jekaterina Vasilega.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How and where did you meet, and why did you decide to work together?

We met each other at an art school in a countryside town Visaginas, Lithuania. After we moved to Vilnius we tried to create our common collection. We liked working together, we’ve got a common style and an idea to create our own cloth brand “VERGI”, which in translation from the Latin language means “to bow” to the fashion.

What inspired you to get into fashion design?

We really like fashion industry. It is so wide, that it is impossible for the job interest to disappear.

Where did you study and what did you specialise in at Art School (for example, textile design)?

We graduated from Art school and sewing basics` courses. We entered a college of Vilnius (costume design specialization) but decided to quit. We understood that starting working we’ll get much more experience and better results.

Did you train or get work experience with another design house before starting out on your own?

Yes, we had work experience in another fashion houses.

What is your favourite fashion era?

No preferences, from each epoch we take something ingenious.

What inspires your designs? How long does it take for you to put a collection together from your first ideas, to catwalk?

Inspiration is inside us. We induce each other for the new ideas.

How do you go about designing pieces from the very beginning; what thoughts run through your mind? The woman you are designing for? The statement she wants to make? Functionality? Affordability? Comfort? Femininity? Sensuality?

The very first aim creating the clothes – functionality and an idea. After that we are thinking about sexuality and a comfort.

Does your original vision change along the way as you experiment with fabrics, volumes and shapes?

Using simple fabrics we are trying to play with forms and volumes. We are looking for such fabrics, which are not used in sewing, and applying them to be worn.

Do you have any favourite fabrics and colours that you like to work with?

Our  current collection has “future” style elements. Each color’s nature is unique. The most important for us is a combining, we try to use brave color combinations.
 
 

 

Which celebrity (past or present) would you most like to dress; why?

We wanted to recreate Monica`s Belluci image. She is feminine and has a sparkling sexuality. Ideal for our style.
 
 

 

Which fashion houses/designers do you most admire; why?

We are also inspired by Alexander McQueen. His collections and the way they are presented at Cat-walk shows. He’s got more than just a presentation of collections.
 
 

 

Which model would you most like to see wearing your designs on the runway; why?

Tanya Dziahileva, because of she’s unusual, cind of futuristic face and hypnotizing look.

You say on your website that you would like to get into costpod nume design. Do you have any specific TV programmes or theatrical shows in mind?

Most of the time we get orders for advertisements and ads. But also creating fresh, quick “between collection’s” clothes for the model photo shoots.
 
 

 

Which is more important, technology or craft?

Technologies are more important.
 
 

 

Coco Chanel designed clothes for herself, do you?

Of course, we also create clothes for ourselves. One style, one kind of fabric but different cut. We make such costumes that we look together like one piece. You can easily recognize us by our clothes. We adore our brand.
 
 

 

Do you prefer designing one type of clothing (wedding dresses, theatrical costumes) more than another?

Our priority is to create clothes for commercials and creative collections. Our expectations for the future are to create clothes for video clips and movies.
 
 

 

What about fashion as a business?

Fashion is business. We are not businessmen, we are designers. For this reason, we would like to meet the person, who could turn our ideas into money.
 
 

 

Please briefly describe a typical working day.

We don’t have a strict schedule, although the biggest part of our time is spent on design.
 
 

 

Do you think it is possible to bring exclusive couture and high street fashion closer together? Would you want to?

Yeah, what we want is that a woman will always be a woman. She is supposed to wear beautiful, effective and sexy clothes. What some of the youth were nowadays – is just awful.
 
 

 

How do you see fashion today? And tomorrow?

Fashion for us is a fight for a successful future.
 
 

 

Please tell us more about the women behind the Vergi brand – Alesia & Jekaterina and your own individual preferences when it comes to the clothes that you wear.

We prefer to wear our brand clothes, and always high-heeled shoes.

How would you define your style?

From the beginning we were interested in a classic style, but the more we work the more we try to make an absolutely new style, bringing future elements.
 
 

 

Do you think fashion companies give young designers enough of a chance?

During one and a half of a year we didn’t have a chance to cooperate with any fashion companies. To our mind, fashion companies must help perspective young designers.
 
 

 

We know you are looking for sponsors and partners, please tell us a little about what you have in mind.

We are in search for investor, which could develop the “VERGI” brand, and to bring it to the world market.
 
 

 

In a parallel life, what other careers might you have chosen?

At the moment we are scarifying all our attention to fashion to achieve the best result. We didn’t think about any other profession yet.
 
 

 

Which runway: Paris, Milan, New York or London?

New York->Milan->Paris->London

What’s next for you?

Our next project is a couture wedding dress with some future elements.
Plans for the future: our aim is create costumes for the cinema, theater, advertising, images for celebrities and making all that to express our understanding of fashion
